The island comprises 5 villas of 35sqm and 1 Luxury Sultan villa of 70sqm set amid lush vegetation around an outdoor pool and all enjoying stunning ocean views as well as a sophisticated gourmet restaurant with outstanding cuisine, influenced by the early settlers of Zanzibar from Portugal, India and the Middle East. Guests can choose to breakfast in the restaurant or savour it in the privacy of their private veranda at no extra charge.

The Island can host up to ten guests and is exclusively for adults (children should be over 12). The entire island can be reserved for a memorable family vacation or a gathering of friends, but each villa can be individually booked. The villas are stylish but simple in their design, reflecting the pure colours of African nature and cooled by the gentle trade winds. Four poster beds are furnished with mosquito nets and there’s a minibar, coffee and tea making facilities, a safebox, hairdryer and ceiling fan. Tranquillity is the theme on The Island and there’s no TV or wifi in the Villas but wifi is available in the restaurant area. If looking for a unique place to take your wedding vows, or even renew them, The Island Pongwe offers a full service including legal documentation, wedding celebrant, musicians, tropical decoration, and beach dinner with champagne bubbles. Peak season is August and over Christmas. The main beach at Pongwe is just 100 metres away and can be reached on foot at low tide while at high tide it is easily reachable by canoe. The beach is a quiet virgin white arc, fringed with palm trees and dense vegetation of the tropics. The whole bay is protected by an offshore reef, keeping inner waters calm and safe to enjoy swimming and snorkelling. If looking for some activity to balance lazing away the endless sunshine, scuba diving and fishing trips to the reef are easily arranged. Or simply take a favourite novel and enjoy the opportunity to totally relax while watching the traditional dhows of Zanzibar drift by into another incredible sunset.
